Ihminen on usein luontaisesti ennakkoluuloinen. Muodostamme tietynlaisia ajatuksia ja oletuksia päämme sisällä, jotka usein kohdistuvat nimenomaan toisiin ihmisiin sekä heidän elämäänsä. On niin helppo arvostella ja ihmetellä vaikka ei oikeasti tiedä puoliakaan. Bloggaajana sitä asettaa elämänsä ikään kuin tiskille ja antaa sosiaalisen median kautta tietynlaisen kuvan itsestään sekä elämästään. Usein lukijoiltakin saattaa kuitenkin unohtua, että on elämää blogin ulkopuolellakin. Tänne ei välttämättä jaeta ihan kaikkea – vaikka paljon ehkä jaetaankin.
Itsehän olen myöskin kohdannut ennakkoluuloja todella paljon elämäni aikana ja vielä useammin kuullut, kuinka en olekaan ollut yhtään sellainen kuin minun on ajateltu olevan. Aika tyypillinen oletus on ollut kova, kylmä, ilkeä ihminen ja ämmä, mikä ei todellakaan pidä paikkansa. En myöskään kiellä ettenkö itsekin olisi toisinaan hyvinkin ennakkoluuloinen ja muodostaisi ihmisistä oletusarvoisia määritelmiä pelkän ulkokuoren, käytöksen sekä huhupuheiden perusteella. Vaikka nykyään olenkin ennakkoluulojen suhteen todella skarppina, silti edelleen välillä poikkean polulta tahtomattanikin ja oletan jotain, mitä ei todellakaan kannattaisi olettaa.
Hyvä muistutus itselleni oli tuossa taannoin, kun tutustuin paremmin ihmiseen, jota en ollut tuntenut aikaisemmin kuin moikkaus asteella. Olin ajatellut hänen olevan tietynlainen (ei ehkä edes tyyppiseni) mutta enemmän juteltuamme ja tutustuttuamme tykästyin häneen todella paljon! Itse asiassa meissä tuntuikin yhtäkkiä olevan hyvin paljon samaa. Vastaava tilanne oli myös äskettäin, kun muutama tuttuni totesi minulle enemmän juteltuamme, että minusta saa paljon pidättyväisemmän kuvan kuin oikeasti olenkaan. En ollut tuosta yhtään yllättynyt sillä olinhan kuullut tuon niin monta kertaa aikaisemminkin. Ja onhan se totta, että olen vieraampien kanssa ehkä tietyllä tapaa varautuneempi enkä tosiaan päästä ihan heti lähelleni. Tässä siis puolin ja toisin muutama esimerkki siitä, kuinka me muodostamme ihmisistä mielikuvia ja ajattelemme heidän olevan tietynlaisia ehkä usein jopa tahtomattammekin.
Ennakkoluulothan perustuvat kuitenkin aina tietämättömyyteen. Kun ei ole tietoa, on helppo arvailla tai ikään kuin samaistua puheisiin, joita kuulemme muilta ihmisiltä. Osa ennakkoluuloista saattaa olla perua ihan kotikasvatuksesta tai lapsuudesta. Myös media maalaa tietynlaista kuvaa meille jatkuvasti ja yksi tyypillinen ennakkoluulojen kohde ovat maahanmuuttajat. Niin paljon on ollut negatiivista puhetta, että siinä herkästi unohtaa sen, ettei heistä jokainen ole raiskaaja tai terroristi. Mielestäni onkin tärkeää miettiä omia ennakkoluulojaan ja sitä, miten puhuu asioista joista ei tiedä riittävästi faktaa, tai ihmisistä joita emme tunne. Tämä siis myös itselleni, sillä kuten mainittu myös itse välillä muodostan niitä ennakkokäsityksiä, joihin havahdun viimeistään siinä kohtaa, kun tajuan olleeni jälleen kerran niin väärässä.
Ennakkoluuloja voi kitkeä pois myös tiedon lisäämisellä ja sillä, että perehtyy asioihin syvemmin. Valtamedialla on tietynlainen linjaus, jota he vievät eteenpäin ja sehän ei ole aina koko totuus. Myös se, että opettelee ymmärtämään erilaisuutta ja pitämään sitä rikkautena on yksi hyvä väylä. Jos elät tietynlaisten ihmisten keskellä ja niissä omissa ”piireissä”, voi sinun olla vaikeampi ymmärtää vaikka todella päinvastaisia ihmisiä. Onhan se toki luonnollista, että silloin, kun ei tunne on niin helppo arvostella ja jopa tuomita. Aina on myöskin hyvä muistaa, että useammalla tarinalla on kaksi puolta. Esimerkiksi riitaisa ero saattaa aiheuttaa sen, että toisesta puhutaan kaikki negatiivinen ja unohdetaan mainita, että olihan suhteessa myös hyvät hetkensä. Juuri näiden asioiden takia meidän olisikin hyvä opetella käsittelemään ennakkoluuloja. Jos kuulemme juorun tai joku sanoo meille toisesta ihmisestä jotain, on täysin turhaa – suorastaan typerää – lähteä tuon perusteella ajattelemaan yhtään mitään sen enempää.
Itse olen tällä hetkellä todella kyllästynyt ennakkoluuloihin ja ylipäänsä ihmisten arvosteluun. Kaikki tuo on niin turhaa ja myrkyttää ainoastaan mieltä. Lupaankin omalta osaltani kiinnittää asiaan jatkossa vielä enemmän huomiota, sillä niin herkästi sitä lipuu siihen ennakkokäsitysten maailmaan ja huomaakin ajattelevansa ihmisistä jotain sellaista, jota ei kannattaisi ajatella.
